This volume two consists of 6 short stories taken from the book. The Adventure of the Three Gables tells how Holmes finds the truth when someone wants to buy an ordinary house, but requires that all furniture in the house be included. The Adventure of the Blanched Soldier is about Holmes helping a soldier to find a missing friend. In The Adventure of the Lion's Mane, a man manages to say something about a "lion's mane" before he dies. Holmes figures out the meaning by investigating the salt lake. The Adventure of the Retired Colourman follows Holmes being hired by a retired art supply dealer to look into his wife’s disappearance. The Adventure of the Veiled Lodger is about an unusual lodger who never shows her face but shouting curses in the night, "Murder, murder!”. The Adventure of Shoscombe Old Place tells a series of odd things happening in Shoscombe Old Place, a racing stable.
